The Frequently Asked Questions

Yet another URL shortener. What makes you different ?

This URL shortener is part of a bigger project, on which we do not wish to disgress now. However, our goal is also to offer the best features of all URL shortening services in one place.

I have encountered a bug

This web site is work in progress. However, we are always looking forward to reports and suggestions. Please mail the webmaster.

Can I have the source code ?

Not yet. There is little mystery and we have nothing to hide. However, we do not wish to spread buggy code and it needs to be properly commented and indented to be readable. We also would want to have a clear separation between code and UI design. Additionally, it includes snippets of code extracted from other similar projects. Depending which license was used for the original code, some parts may need to be rewritten to be distributable.

What is this "IPv6" country appearing in statistics ?

Right now, we group under one "country" label all accesses from unidentified IPv6 enabled clients. There are two reasons for this:

  • The database we use to identify the origin of connections is MaxMind's GeoIP. This database only includes a small subset of IPv6 addresses.
  • IPv6 accesses are still mainly happening through tunnels of all sorts, like 6to4, Teredo and similar. At best, identifying IPv6 addresses would result in identifying the tunnel provider and its location, not the real location of the user.
  • Oh, and by the way: we are the only URL shortener accessible through either IPv4 or IPv6.

How do you pronounce "pra.im" ?

/praɪm/ is actually the international phonetic alphabet notation of the word "prime". Just pronounce "PRIME".
